Chicago!

Before this past weekend, I had never been to Chicago before. I'd heard so many great things about it, so I was very excited about being able to spend a weekend there with the Humanities Scholars! On Friday night, we saw a comedy show by The Second City, which is the group that has trained comedians like Steve Correl and Tine Fey. It was a fun time and a really enjoyable show. Saturday morning we went to the Humanities festival at the University of Illinois Chicago and listened to a lecture about the general population's fascination with public scandels. We had free time for most of Saturday afternoon. I went to Mullenium Park with my friends Molly, Alexis, and Bethany, and we took some fun pictures at the bean statue. That night the whole group went to Gino's pizza for a yummy dinner, and then Navy Pier to ride the ferris wheel. I'm scared to death of heights, but I went on it anyway-it ended up being worth it. The view of the city from the top of the ferris wheel was spectacular! I had a great weekend in Chicago, and I can't wait to go back again sometime!

  1. I loved Chicago! I had so much fun there. The trip definitely exceeded my expectations. I loved having down time to go shopping. This allowed me to get to know a lot of my friends outside of OSU's setting. It was really nice just to get off campus for a weekend. Honestly, it felt like a much needed mini-vacation to break up fall quarter!

  2. I had a fantastic time in Chicago! I felt like I got a chance to get closer to a lot of my friends and neighbors and I also got to see the city in a whole new way (as in not walking around with my parents for a weekend, but getting to go wherever I wanted). I thought Second City was so funny! If I ever get the chance I will definitely be going to see them again. I also really enjoyed spending time at the Navy Pier. It was really cool to go there at night and see the ferris wheel all lit up. I am now SO excited for the New York trip!!

  3. I had a good time on the Chicago trip. I enjoyed the Second City, the Art Museum that I went to on my free time, and the food we had there. The only thing that could have been better was the lecture at UIC; her lecture just went over my head and I admit that I started to dose off during it because of it. But other than that, I had a positive experience on the trip.

  4. I have been to Chicago a few times before, but the trip with the Humanities Scholars has become my favorite visit to the Windy City. I had an excellent time spending all my free time Saturday in the Art Museum and was very pleased with the Second City performance. It was very cool eating deep dish pizza in a private room at Gino's East of Chicago and having the pizza ready for us so we didn't have to wait!

I agree with Ben, the lecture could have been better but that was out of our control so that was understandable.

  5. I had a great time on the chicago trip! I loved second city. They were really funny. It was so awesome to go to the top of Sear's Tower and to go on the ferris wheel at Navy Pier. This trip did somewhat feel like a vacation and it was very nice to take a break. I definitely got to know a lot more people and feel closer to the group. I do agree though that the speaker could have been better but there's nothing we can do about that. Overall I had a great trip and I can't wait to go on any future trips!

  6. I absolutely had a fabulous time on the Chicago trip! It was a great weekend of fellowship, laughter, sightseeing, and learning, and I'd definitely recommend it to Humanities Scholars in the future. The trip was a great way to better connect with those in the humanities program, while the shopping, time at the Navy Pier, and the Chicago-style pizza were awesome bonuses as well. I'm definitely looking forward to attending more trips like this with the Humanities Scholars program in the years to come!

  7. This was my second time in the windy city, and it was fantastic. Getting to see the city in a new light was so much fun. Second city was hilarious, I can see why they feed directly into SNL. Having time to walk around the city on our own was a lot of fun that night (especially because we got to eat non campus food!). Navy pier was so much fun and so beautiful at night and shopping on Michigan Avenue was any shoppers dream. The trip was an awesome bonding experience, I'll never forget trying to find our way home from Loyola with Nicole and Jocelyn. The trip was a great success and I can't wait for other Humanities Scholars trips around the country and the world!

  8. I have been to Chicago several times before, but this was by far one of my favorite trips there! This time I was not stuck with my parents the whole time and I actually got to explore the city on my own and with my friends. I was worried that having been to Chicago so many times I wouldn't get to experience anything new. But, going to see Second City was great! It's something I've never done before and I enjoyed it a lot. I loved having so much free time! It let me do the things I wanted, like shopping on Michigan Ave! This trip was really great and was an awesome bonding experience. I will never forget all of the memories I made. I can't wait for the next Humanities Scholars trip, wherever it may be!

  9. While I have not been to Chicago to visit in almost 10 years--and at that, it was for a conference with family--I felt as if this trip was my first time to the BIG WINDY CITY. First and foremost, the chance to hang out and get to know my friends in the Scholars program was definitely a benefit of going on this trip. And eating the food was FANTASTIC. I have to say that Chicago is definitely, despite the price, a place that I would recommend to anyone and plan on going back to in the near future (especially to visit Melissa and her friends!)
